Am fwy o wybodaeth darllenwch ein\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ldw.org.uk\/cy\/welsh-language-statement\/\">Datganiad Iaith Gymraeg<\/a>.<\/em>)<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 2.1rem;\">Mental ill-health is common, affecting one in six adults at any one time (ONS 2000) and research suggests that people with learning disabilities have an increased likelihood of developing mental ill-health, with figures ranging from 25 to 40 per cent (Hatton 2002).<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"lead-para\">\n<p>Children with a learning disability are also more likely to suffer from mental health problems than children without a learning disability.<\/p>\n<p>We have rounded-up some recent useful resources about mental health, well-being and learning disability. Their website has lots of useful resources, research and case studies.<\/p>\n<p>Mencap have a useful\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mencap.org.uk\/learning-disability-explained\/research-and-statistics\/health\/mental-health\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">section about mental health and learning disability<\/a>\u00a0on their website. It includes information and advice about useful treatments, such as Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic therapy, and family therapy.<\/p>\n<p>NHS Fife have made a leaflet for carers<a href=\"http:\/\/www.moodcafe.co.uk\/media\/25008\/Acarersguidetodepression.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">: &#8216;A Carer&#8217;s Guide to Depression in People with a Learning Disability&#8217; (PDF)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Books Beyond Words have produced a series of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/booksbeyondwords.co.uk\/bookshop\/paperbacks\/sonias-feeling-sad\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">easy read story books about depression and mental health<\/a>: &#8216;Sonia&#8217;s Feeling Sad&#8217;, &#8216;Ron&#8217;s Feeling Blue&#8217;, &#8216;Feeling Cross and Sorting It Out&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Mindfulness for Kids with LD&#8217;. Mindfulness means being able to focus on the current moment and letting go of other thoughts. The Smart Kids with Learning Disabilities website in the United States has a really good\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.smartkidswithld.org\/getting-help\/emotions-behaviors\/mindfulness-kids-ld\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">web page with tips about how mindfulness can help children with a learning disability manage stress and anxiety<\/a>. It also includes a list of recommended apps for children and young people.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dewis.wales\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dewis Cymru is a &#8216;one-stop shop&#8217; for information about well-being in Wales<\/a>, providing quality information from a network of social care, health and third sector organisations across Wales.<\/p>\n<p>National Autistic Society have a useful section on their website about\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.autism.org.uk\/about\/health\/mental-health.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">mental health and autism<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.awp.nhs.uk\/news-publications\/trust-news\/2020\/july\/workbook-to-help-people-with-learning-disabilities-who-experience-psychosis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Workbook to help people with learning disabilities who experience psychosis: guide for NHS clinicians<\/a> &#8211; Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership (AWP) NHS Trust<\/p>\n<p>ECL (Essex): <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ecl.org\/about\/latest-news\/blog\/easy-read-guide-to-anxiety-management-for-adults-with-learning-disabilities\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Easy Read guide to anxiety management for adults with learning disabilities<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The National Institute for Health and Social Care Excellence (NICE) have\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nice.org.uk\/guidance\/ng54\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">guidance on &#8216;Mental health problems in people with learning disabilities: prevention, assessment and management&#8217;<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This guideline covers preventing, assessing and managing mental health problems in people with learning disabilities in all settings (including health, social care, education, and forensic and criminal justice). It aims to improve assessment and support for mental health conditions, and help people with learning disabilities and their families and carers to be involved in their care.<\/p>\n<p>Welsh Government introduced the\u00a0&#8216;Mental Health (Wales) Measure&#8217;\u00a0in 2010, which places new legal duties on local health boards and local authorities about the assessment and treatment of mental health problems. Mental Health Wales have a useful\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mentalhealthwales.net\/mental-health-measure\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">guide to the &#8216;Mental \u00a0Health Measure&#8217; for people who use services and their families<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8216;I had a black dog, his name was depression<\/strong>&#8216;: This\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=XiCrniLQGYc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">powerful and beautifully-told animated video<\/a>\u00a0from writer and illustrator Matthew Johnstone tells the story of overcoming the &#8220;black dog of depression&#8221;. More information on the book can be found at:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/matthewjohnstone.com.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">http:\/\/matthewjohnstone.com.au.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.england.nhs.uk\/learning-disabilities\/improving-health\/stomp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">&#8216;STOMP: Stopping the over-medication of people with a learning disability, autism or both&#8217;<\/a>. This health campaign aims to stop the over-use of psychotropic medication to manage people&#8217;s behaviour. The campaign is focused mainly in England but is very relevant to Wales.<\/p>\n<h2>Helpful organisations<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/callhelpline.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">C.A.L.L. Helpline &#8211; Mental Health Helpline For Wales<\/a><\/p>\n<p>C.A.L.L. is a mental health helpline for Wales, providing emotional support, referral to agencies and free self help leaflets for anyone in Wales. Freephone\u00a0<strong>0800 132 737<\/strong>\u00a0or\u00a0<strong>text the word &#8220;help&#8221; to 81066<\/strong>.
