University of South Wales – Words and Terms Used in Social Prescribing – Easy Read

December 2023 | A guide to hard words and terms used in social prescribing.

Researchers at the University of South Wales asked us to make an Easy Read version of their social prescribing glossary of terms. This was a project by the University of South Wales, Wales School for Social Prescribing Research and Public Health Wales.

Social prescribing helps connect people to groups and services in the community. It is a way to help them manage their health and wellbeing.

Social prescribing can be confusing. This is because there are lots of difficult words or terms used. Different words can be used by different people to describe the same thing, so this guide helps people understand what the words and terms mean.

The Easy Read guide explains what social prescribing is and has an A to Z of the main hard words used with explanations.

We also made a Welsh Easy Read version of the guide. Both are digitally accessible for screen readers and other assistive technology.

Press the red download button to view an accessible PDF of the guide.

You can visit the Social Prescribing Glossary of Terms website to find out more about the glossary.

The Wales School for Social Prescribing Research website has more information about their research and projects.

The Welsh Government has also launched their National Framework for Social Prescribing. You can find the Easy Read version we created for them here.
