We’re delighted to welcome Beth Rees to the Learning Disability Wales team. We asked Beth to tell us about herself and their new role as Policy and Communications Officer.
I’m excited to have joined Learning Disability Wales as the new Policy and Communications Officer, working alongside Sam and Kai in the Communications team.
My role is to help communicate the organisation’s views on learning disability policy. This includes meeting with our members, supporters and people within the sector, writing articles and contributing to government consultations.
I’ve been involved in communications and policy work in the charity sector for the last 10 years but more recently, I worked as a Senior Health and Wellbeing Consultant for a global IT company. I supported hundreds of employees with their health and wellbeing and ran workshops about disability, neurodiversity and mental health. Through this role, I helped employees to access reasonable adjustments if they experienced any barriers or challenges at work. As a certified Mental Health First Aider, I was also a member of the internal neurodiversity and disability networks, acting as an advocate for change.
As a late-diagnosed autistic person with ADHD, I’ve been presenting, speaking and writing about this topic for many years. In December 2024, after studying part-time, I graduated with a master’s in creative writing where I mostly wrote about gender inequality and neurodiversity.
Outside of work, I’m a keen runner (if there’s coffee and cake after), dungaree-wearer and host a monthly book club. I’m married and am dog mum to Maisey the Westie (who likes to make an appearance on Teams calls).
I feel very privileged to be part of the Learning Disability Wales team and can’t wait to meet and work alongside everyone!
