Our photo competition 2019 was held in partnership with Able Radio and was open to anyone living in Wales with a learning disability.
We were looking for pictures on the theme of our annual conference “Right here” and could be a picture of anything, but must tell a story about how you are seen, heard, valued and included.
37 people from across Wales entered the competition.
The judges awarded prizes for 2 categories and 1 overall winner.

The second photographer
My photograph is a picture of a wedding I have done. I decided to use this as I love photography and I feel when I hold a camera I’m a part of the wedding as everyone comes up to me and talks to me just because I’m holding a camera and I love it. I may just look like a normal person holding a camera. But actually I’m not so normal, I have ADHD and Chromosome. So with those I have learning difficulties and worry about a lot of stuff. And worry about all my problems. But when I pick up that camera I forget about everything, I feel at ease, I feel like all my worries have gone. I got into photography by modelling for a photography club Halloween time as a clown. And I thought taking pictures was pretty cool so I wanted in on that. And ever since it’s been my favourite hobby, I was the second photographer for this wedding.
Building the future
This is a photo of two of my friends looking at the renovation of Chepstow Mencaps Future Community Hub, that we have received lottery funding for. I took this photo because I am hopeful for the future in our new place. It means we will have more space and activities to be used by our service and our community.
The light lunch bunch
I took this photo of some locals enjoying the food I prepare and serve, at a local community centre, for the Chepstow Mencap Light Lunch. This photo makes me happy and appreciated. I hope it makes the judges smile.
