To mark Mental Health Awareness Week we’re publishing a new easy read guide to help people with learning disabilities look after their mental health and well-being.

People with learning disabilities are far more likely to experience mental health issues. But there is a lack of easy to read and understand information out there, telling people how they can understand when they might have mental health issue and what to do.

This guide is an introduction to understanding the most common mental health issues – depression and anxiety. We talk about the kind of treatment people should be offered in Wales when they go and see their GP.

We also provide some tips about how everyone can look after their mental health better, even if they don’t have a mental health issue. It’s important people take time to look after their mental health and find the right help for them. We are all different and different things work for different people.

In the future we will provide further resources about mental health and well-being, including information about other mental health conditions. We hope you have found this guide useful. Please let us know if there’s any other information you would like to see – email easyread@ldw.org.uk.
